Dear Friends in Christ,
Many of you who support and pray for the Wales Goebel Ministry think of it as either Sav- A-Life, Lifeline Adoption or most recently Cry of Africa. All of those ministries had their beginning through Mr. Goebel and now operate as separate entities with their own boards and 501(c)(3) status. The Wales Goebel Ministry still operates as a ministry of evangelism, counseling, Bible teaching, and discipleship. This letter is to inform and reinforce in your thinking exactly what we do on a weekly basis.
Currently we have eighteen staff (including spouses) who work full-time and one who works part-time in the ministry. Three of this group work in the administrative side of our organization, while taking part in outreaches as well. Two couples work in Colombia in evangelism and church planting. In the Birmingham area we have two couples who work with the Hispanic population in a local church-plant, a soccer ministry, and a prison ministry. There are three individuals who primarily attend to Biblical counseling, while also teaching Bible classes. There are Bible studies held weekly by almost all of the staff. Discipleship and evangelism are a weekly ongoing part of every staff person’s ministry. The following is a list of staff and their responsibilities:
Jan Bearden – Administrative and evangelism
Allison Haynes – Administrative and evangelism
Stan Goebel – Administrative and evangelism
Wales and Jean Goebel – Evangelism and discipleship
Janet King – Part-time Administrative
Jay and Cindy Jackson – Counseling, counselor training, Bible teaching, and discipleship
Jim and Lula McVay – Evangelism and discipleship
Alfredo and Juana Medina – Church planting Santa Marta, Colombia
Horacio and Patty Osorio – Church planting Bogotá, Colombia
Octavio and Rosie Samper – Church planting, evangelism, and discipleship among Hispanics in Birmingham
Bill and Lil Stroup – Evangelism and Bible teaching among Japanese in Birmingham
Joyce Yancey – Women’s ministry, Bible teaching, counseling, evangelism and discipleship
This staff ministers in all outreaches combined to a total of over 1200 people on a weekly basis. There are 25 weekly classes taught to young people, businessmen, ladies, couples, or families. Over the last twelve months these missionaries have led a total of 480 people to Jesus Christ as their Savior. Over 45 people during the last year came for counseling on a weekly basis. Some of those continue in a discipleship process once a week. In Bogotá there are two classes associated with the church-plant which are for unbelievers. There are approximately 15-20 who attend one of those two classes desiring to learn about salvation.
The Wales Goebel Ministry continues to do what it has been doing for the past forty-four years. We evangelize the lost, counsel the hurting, disciple the saved, and challenge others to share their faith. Please continue to pray for us and support us financially. It is an investment in eternity.
In Christ Our Life,
Dr. Jay Jackson
